SCAP takes an innovative and pro-active approach to developing, implementing and promoting effective HIV/AIDS/STD/HEP C prevention,
treatment, care, education, and support programs appropriately designed for the specific conditions of Stanislaus County.
By building
consensus and facilitating collaboration with local, state, and federal agencies, we help ensure informed policy development, effective
advocacy, and comprehensive planning for our community’s needs.
Given the recent changes in the Central Valley’s availability of affordable
housing, SCAP’s current advocacy priority is housing.
SCAP works closely with the Stanislaus Housing & Support Services Collaborative
in support of the County's "Continuum of Care" program. SCAP serves as the sole HIV/AIDS advocate on SHSSC committees, and strongly
advocates for HIV/AIDS housing issues through our involvement on the SCHSSC “special populations” & “room and board” housing committee.
Due
to the symbiotic relationship between safe, sanitary housing and our HIV/AIDS client’s health, SCAP is formally represented and works
closely with the (1) Local HIV/AIDS Implementation Group (LIG) committee, (2) Stanislaus Housing & Support Services Collaborative
(SHSSC), (3) Stanislaus Health Services AIDS Case Management Review Team, (4) AIDS Resource Review Committee, and (5) Health Services
Agency – Community Health Action Plan. (6) Housing Authority of Stanislaus County.
Beyond housing, SCAP also advocates and promotes
our mission to local political leaders, numerous faith-based organizations, various women’s groups in San Joaquin and Stanislaus counties,
all middle & high school systems in Stanislaus County, Modesto Westside Collaborative, Wellness Recovery Center, numerous juvenile
and adult correctional facilities, El Concilio Coalition, Strengthening Families and Promoting Health & Well Being Impact Councils,
Health Services Agency, Center for Human Services, Migrant Education Program, various youth based STD education & prevention programs,
traditional media outlets such as cable, newspaper, radio, and TV, United Farm Worker Union, National Offices of numerous health service
that impact Stanislaus County, and many others.
Note: Although SCAP is the leading advocate in the Central Valley for individuals
affected by life threatening illnesses, as an agency, we do not support, nor advocate, for social issues that are in direct violation
of established laws, or beyond our mission statement.
